Squall Series from Lightspeed Kayaks

The Squall Series is a select number of kayaks in our line that can be fitted with our out riggers and full high performance sail rigs for the ultimate in versatility, excitement and speed. All fittings, rigging and sails can be assembled to a Squall without tools in a matter of minutes.

Fly to a destination at 2 to 3 times paddling speed; remove the outriggers in a flash and have your unencumbered kayak to play, explore and relax with at your destination.

No wind? The Squall's paddle lightly and fast with the outriggers attached and turn on a dime with the dagger board up or down. A small assist from your paddles on a low wind day will let you "motorsail” at speed in excess of normal paddling.

On a good day when other paddlers may choose to hunker down, the Squall can carry you safely at speeds over 10 knots – usually with a grin on your face. Off-wind or up-wind the Squalls are sure to keep you smiling. The Squalls are all standalone quality ocean kayaks first, so feel free to use them without the sailrig. They are slightly heavier than our standard kayaks as they are reinforced at stress points and carry some permanent fittings. Only Lightspeed Kayaks have the SportTrek™ Rudder that makes the handling and performance of the Squalls possible.

Squalls break down to very manageable, lightweight components. If your car will carry a kayak ,the Squall will fit just as easily (all the rest of the parts are smaller and lighter).

Squall Series Specifications

  • Mainhull: See Quantum, Phantom, Phoenix or Photon specs
  • Outriggers:14' x 6"
  • Crossbeams: 12' x 3"
  • Total Assembled Beam: 3"
  • Sails: Fully battened, high performance sails, 24, 32, or 36sq ft.
  • Daggerboard recommended, but leeboards and centreboards available.
